Rick Fines hardly needs an introduction, as a mainstay of the Hornby Island Blues Workshop he has helped to nurture and grow our Blues Camp to what it is today, however, a musician of Rick Fines' caliber certainly warrants an introduction. As both a solo artist and in collaborative endeavors Rick has had nominations for Juno and Hardy awards, 8 Maple Blues nominations and 3 Maple Blues Awards, for Songwriter of the Year and Acoustic Act of the Year twice, he's won the 2003 International Songwriting Competition and without a doubt is one of the best acoustic fingerstyle and slide guitarists in North America. Rick weaves a unique blend of warm hearted blues, juke joint folk and dock side soul to the delight of his captivated audiences, styled with diverse guitar playing, engaging lyrics and of course his signature vocal growl - once heard never forgotten!
Rick Fines has a deep relationship with the Blues, he has spent his life exploring the many shades of the music and the truths he finds there is evident in his engaging and touching songs. As a songwriter he has found ways to weave his words into the music, to bring to life the transformative power of the Blues, in the most positive way. As a teacher Rick seeks to inspire people to follow their own learning path and to develop their own self expression, delving into his own wealth of knowledge and expertise to help students toward that end. You couldn't ask for a better teacher, or a nicer one for that matter, and we are so lucky to have Rick Fines and all his talent join us once again for our 2017 Workshop.
