For Hornby Island Blues Society’s 20th Anniversary, Rick Fines returns once again. As a mainstay of the Hornby Island Blues Workshop, he has helped to nurture and grow our Blues Camp into what it is today. Every year Rick as helped us assemble the Workshop and perform within it. As an experienced musician, he brings the expertise and craft of his previous nominations for Juno and Hardy awards, the credentials of his numerous Maple Blues Awards, and his first-hand experience in being recognized for Songwriter of the Year, and Acoustic Act of the Year— twice. He is without a doubt one of the finest acoustic fingerstyle and slide guitarists in North America. As a student in Rick’s class, you will not only receive the benefit of learning how to write songs and arrange them, but also will experience how to weave a unique blend of warm-hearted blues, juke joint folk and dock side soul into your songs and fulfill any of your song-writing interests. Rick is recognized for ability to create a warm and effective learning environment, and most students recognize immediately that he has spent his musical life exploring the many shades of the creative process that can be revealed there. As a teacher, Rick says that he seeks to inspire people to follow their own learning path and to develop their own self expression. He is simply there to help them become better musicians and song writers. You couldn't ask for a better teacher, or a more considerate one for that matter, and we are so lucky to have Rick Fines as an instructor, and as students you are fortunate to be able to take his classes.
