Here on Hornby, we are ready to have Ethan Askey come to his first Hornby Island Blues Workshop as our blues harp instructor. Ethan “Shorty” Askey is a harmonica player, singer, bandleader and collaborator who has earned recognition on the Roots Music Report’s “Best of 2022” charts for both Blues and Contemporary Blues. His roots and blues apprenticeship have led him to serve as a working studio session player and sideman to some great bands across western Canada and earn a reputation as a rising talent. You can hear this working experience and love of the blues on his latest release Walk When You Wanna Run. He’s played from coast to coast to Arctic coast in Canada and a musical quest eventually led to Chicago, where he was the guest of one Mr. Junior Wells, bandmate to Buddy Guy and Muddy Waters. It was Wells who inspired work on Shorty’s latest album. Most recently he has toured Germany with Jimmy & the Sleepers.
If you are a blues harp musician this indeed is an opportunity to gather some great playing skills and techniques from an active hard-working bluesman who is building a reputation as a great blues harp musician.
